Casting for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie is starting to come together quite nicely, as one would expect from the director. So far the not-quite-about-Scientology period flick about the founding of a new cult-ish religion has locked Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Renner in lead roles with Reese Witherspoon reportedly offered a part as the wife of Hoffman’s character. Now Production Weekly has an update (via The Playlist) on who could play daughter to Hoffman and Witherspoon (if she takes the gig), with three young actresses vying for the role: Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried and Deborah Ann Woll.According to The Playlist, the part as written is relatively small, but that doesn’t mean we can rule out a rising star like Seyfried, who seems to have about 100 movies out this year. Every girl in Hollywood, no matter how famous, should only wish for a part in an Anderson film. But which of the three contenders deserves the opportunity? I’m not familiar enough with True Blood to rate Woll, but both Seyfried and Stone are both overrated, in my opinion. Okay, maybe Stone could do really well in a drama, but she’s also recently been cast as Steve Carell’s (and maybe Julianne Moore’s) daughter in an upcoming untitled film, so maybe she’d like to play something other than just the main character’s kid again? I know people won’t agree with me on this, but if Anderson is looking for a redhead, why not Seyfried’s Mean Girls costar Lindsay Lohan? Sure, she’s a total mess, but Anderson has worked with her before (on Robert Altman’s A Prairie Home Companion) and maybe he’s the guy to give her the much-needed revival (and kick in the pants). After all, he’s gotten great performances out of so-so guys like Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler and Paul Dano and teased a should-have-been revitalizing turn from Burt Reynolds. Which starlet do you think should win the part? Source: Cinematical No related posts. This entry was posted on Saturday, June 19th, 2010 at 3:04 pm and is filed under Recent News.
